Specimen: Dinoflagellate cyst from the late Eocene epoch (37.6 million years ago), from sediments 424-770 meters below the Greenland Sea floor. These cysts are made of dinosporin, a resistant, complex organic compound that enables the cysts to be preserved as microscopic fossils in sediments hundreds of millions of years old.
Technique: Autofluorescence of the sample was recorded by confocal microscopy
